Any Mould Inspection Cost which is advertised for less or FREE should come under suspicion for two reasons:
- There are a large number of unqualified or underqualified inspectors who work in the market as there is currently no federal regulations on the terms “mould inspector” or “indoor environment professionals”. Work is underway to develop an Australian Standard which will regulate the profession and minmise the risk of using an unqualified or inexperienced inspector.
- A number of mould remediators will conduct inferior and discounted inspections to get their foot in the door for the remediation works. In accordance with international standards, mould inspectors should have no affiliation with those completing remediation works.

When a preliminary determination indicates that mould contamination exists or is likely to exist, an assessment should be performed prior to starting remediation. An independent inspector who has no affiliation with the remediator should be used for this purpose.
